Lot Essay

These striking wall lights derive from examples created for the Palazzo del Magnifico, Siena, after designs by Giacomo Cozzarelli in 1504 (see A. Pedrini, L'Ambiente il Mobilio e le Decorazioni del Rinascimento in Italia, Turin, 1925, figs. 609-610).
A similiar pair of wall lights in giltwood was sold from the collection of Jean-Paul Beaujard, Christie's, New York, 18 September 1993, lot 44.
