Cylindrical and on detachable spreading foot, the scroll handle cast and chased with scrolls and grotesque masks, the hinged domed cover with bifurcated thumbpiece and applied with circular plaque repoussé with bacchic putti, the body with detachable sleeve repoussé and chased with a bacchi putti and a goat, with flowers and scroll borders, engraved beneath the base 'Herman Goverts' and 'No 23', marked by upper handle junction, the foot rim with later Russian import marks for Moscow 1756 and assaymaster's mark of Ivan Schagin, the base with scratchweight
