Lot Essay

Schleffler records two maker's marks for Schönling in Goldschmiede Hessens, Berlin, 1976, p. 240-1, nos. 252 and 253. The first mark, PHS in an oval punch is very similar to the present mark but without the pellets between the intials. The second mark is in a larger oval punch and is also formed by the initials PHS but with standard 13 above.
