A fine pair of 13-inch English table globes
W. &. S. Jones; the terrestrial dated 1802 and the celestial 1802
both globes made-up of twelve engraved hand-coloured gores and two polar calottes, the terrestrial depicting geographical information, with graduated equator and ecliptic, the prime meridian through London, showing the tropics Cancer and Capricorn, the Arctic and Antartic Circles, and the tracks of Captain Cook's voyages; the celestial, with graduated equator, equinoctial colure and ecliptic, the latter graduated houses of the Zodiac, showing the tropics and northern and southern poles, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments, the stars represented in seven orders of magnitude (with key), both spheres with graduated brass meridian rings, applied paper horizons graduated in months of the year, houses of the Zodiac and compass points, supported on mahogany supports to turned column and tripod leg base with stretchers to glazed thirty-two point compass
