PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF IRVING AND JEAN STONE, BEVERLY HILLS
In 1962, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stone asked Sam Maloof to design the furniture for their Beverly Hills Modernist house. Mr. Stone was a best-selling writer who authored works such as Lust for Life, The Agony and the Ecstasy and Clarence Darrow. The celebrity status of the Stone commission was important for Maloof's career as the project drew considerable interest from the press. In addition, the Stone residence was featured by the Southern California branch of the American Institute of Architects on their tour of architect-designed homes, further exposing Sam Maloof's work to an appreciative audience of design enthusiasts.
