Lot Essay

Constantin Dausch (1841-1908) began his career as a stonemason at the town hall in Munich. He enrolled in the Munich Academy in 1869 though completed his studies in Rome, where he spent the remainder of his life. His first major success was a group of Samson and Delilah, which he exhibited at the International Exhibition in Vienna in 1873.
