PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PRESENT VASES CAME TO THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM IN 1918 TO BE SHOWN IN THE EXHIBITION 'THE ARTS OF FRANCE AND BELGIUM FROM THE PAN-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION', 5 FEBRUARY UNTIL 18 MARCH 1918. THEY WERE LATER GIFTED TO THE MUSEUM BY THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT, AS REFLECTED IN THE MINUTES OF THE TRUSTEES AND THE GOVERNING COMMITTEE, 18 MAY 1919. ANOTHER DOCUMENT FROM THE FRENCH COMMERCIAL ATTACHé CONFIRMS THAT THEY WERE THEREAFTER EXHIBITED IN THE ROTUNDA OF THE MUSEUM.

HORACE DéSIRé BIEUVILLE IS RECORDED AT SèVRES AS A PAINTER FROM 1879 TO 1925. EXAMPLES OF HIS DESIGNS ARE CONSERVED AT THE MANUFACTURE. THE ARCHIVE RECORDS FOUR VARIANT DECORES BY BIEUVILLE FOR THE FORM D'ALBI. AT LEAST TWO OF THESE ARE RECORDED AT THE PARIS EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE 1900, 'LES CYGNES' AND 'HERONS'. A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SIX VASES OF EACH DESIGN WERE MADE, MAKING IT LIKELY THAT ONE OR BOTH OF THE PRESENT EXAMPLES WERE SHOWN AT THE EXPOSITION. SEE ALASTAIR DUNCAN, THE PARIS SALON, 1815-1914, VOL.
