Further details
This strikingly beautiful scene with two female nudes juxtaposed against vivid red background was painted in mid-1940. The painting is similar stylistically to other works and theatre designs completed by the artist during that time. The title of the painting comes from inventory lists compiled by my mother, Maggie Chatfield-Taylor, going back to the 1950s, which she frequently updated well into the 1980s. As far as I know, the painting has never been exhibited. It hung in my mother's living room in her home in Stonington, Connecticut from 1970 until her death in 1999, and before that, in her Georgetown home in Washington D.C.
