This work belonged to a famous New York fine art dealer, collector and art critic Alexander Raydon. Since the late 1940s Raydon was one of the most advanced art dealers and collectors of Russian and European Fine Art. His art collection contained more than 40,000 art pieces and his circle of friends was wide. Alexei Brodovitch (Art director of Harper's Bazaar), David and Marussia Burliuk, Moses and Raphael Soyer, Nikolai Cikovsky, Vladimir Kandelaki, Arbit Blatas, Vassyl Khmeluk, Boris Sveshnikov, Ivan Godlevski, Ernst Neizvestny, Anatoly Zverev, Vladimir Nemukhin and many more artists as well as art critics and editors.
Boris Grigor'ev worked as a graphic designer for several important magazines including Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. He differed from his Russian contemporaries in the graphic art world because of his animated use of lines which evoke a sense of a strong emotional connection to his subjects. Brooklyn Heights represents his magnificent power to both create a realistic portrayal of a scene and to deepen its meaning with the expressive use of brushstrokes.
