Lot Essay

This book-cabinet, conceived in the 19th century antiquarian fashion, displays tablets of richly carved foliage in the Renaissance style. With its pillar raised on lion-supported trestles, it relates to such antiquarian furniture as the table supplied in the 1840s for the saloon decorated by J.G. Crace at Chirk Castle, Wales (sold Christies, Chirk Castle, 21st June 2004. lot. 150)
