Enamelled primarily in iron-red and gilt and enriched with green, blue, and aubergine enamels, one side decorated with a coat-of-arms surmounted by a coronet, between prunus and bamboo issuing beside pierced rockwork and a fence, the neck and base encircled by a cell-pattern border, the curved spout set at a right angle from the handle, the matched pierced domed cover surmounted by a knop finial, finial restuck

Christie’s charges a premium to the buyer on the Hammer Price of each lot sold at the following rates: 29.75% of the Hammer Price of each lot up to and including €5,000, plus 23.8% of the Hammer Price between €5,001 and €400,000, plus 14.28% of any amount in excess of €400,001. Buyer’s premium is calculated on the basis of each lot individually.

The arms are those of Jan Albert Sichterman (1692-1764), who was Director of the V.O.C. (Dutch East India Comapny) in Bengal from 1734-1744. He returned to his house in Groningen in 1745 with numerous services along with other works of art from the Orient. There are four known varieties of this service. See C.J.A.
