A cloisonne enamel and gilt-bronze gu beaker vase
Ming dynasty, 16th century
Following an archaic bronze gu form with central bulb between the splayed pedestal foot and tall trumpet neck, all ribbed with four vertical flanges, finely enamelled with archaistic taotie animal masks between upright and pendant blades enclosing stylised dragons, reserved against a turquoise ground of scrolling stylised lotus, the inside of the rim enamelled with further scrolling lotus
