Lot Essay
The thick and shaggy character of this Julkhyr provided a perfect bedding layer on which to sleep. The wool has been woven onto a warp-faced foundation, like a tentband, rather than a weft-faced as is usual with rugs. It has been woven in thin long strips which are then sewn together. A similar example was sold in Christie's New York, 5 April, 2001, lot 151. See also Eberhart Herrman, Seltenne Orientteppiche, VII, Münich, 1985, no.85.
