Lot Essay

One of the most commmon designs for Beshir rugs is to place a 2-1-2 arrangement of medallions on a field of overall design. The present rug however is very different in many ways. It is tighter woven than most Beshir rugs, with many more and brighter colours. But the really remarkable feature is, in the place of the normally encountered octagons, the appearance here of the various circles within the design, surely the most difficult shape to achieve in knotted pile.
