Lot Essay

The tomb of Amenophis III (KV22) in the Western part of the Valley of the Kings was discovered by Napoleon's Expedition in 1799. Many of the shabtis for Amenophis III in alabaster, granodiorite, ebony or faience left Egypt thereafter, in the early 19th Century (cf. Description de l'Egypte, Antiquités, II, Paris, 1812, pl. 81, fig. 3).
