Accompanied by an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming the date of manufacture as 1892 and its subsequent sale on May 21st, 1895.
Throughout their long history, Patek Philippe has produced only approximately 600 watches incorporating both minute repeating and the chronograph function.
According to our research, the present watch has never before appeared at auction. According to family legend, this watch was purchased by the present owner's father from a Russian Nobleman in 1917/18 in Murmansk, Russia to help finance the gentleman's flight from the Bolsheviks. The owner's father was a high-ranking government official of the Russian Imperial Crown, a Freemason in Latvia and a businessman of various pursuits.
The watch remained with this official and survived a number of harrowing escapes from the Soviet Union Army as he and his family crossed into Latvia, throughout Europe and finally settled in North America. Throughout his life and until his death in 1957, he never divulged the identity of the original owner, only saying that he bought it from a Russian Prince, possibly the origin of the monogram of CK on the reverse of the case.
