Accompanied by the original Patek Philippe box and certificate, both stamped for the retailer Freccero. Further accompanied by an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming the date of manufacture as 1956 and its subsequent sale on March 14th of the following year.
According to our research, the present watch has never before appeared at auction.
The reference 2526, introduced in 1953, was Patek Philippe's first model featuring a self-winding movement. According to research, the company manufactured circa 2,800 movements encased as the reference 2526 until 1960 with appproximately only 30 examples produced in 18k white gold. Another rare feature of the present lot is the enamel dial. Although the yellow and pink gold versions almost always possess enamel dials, the majority of the known white gold and platinum pieces were produced with metal dials with diamond indexes. White gold apears to be the rarest of all the metals used for the cases of the reference 2526.
The rarity of present watch further resides in the appearance of the retailer's signature on the dial, the box and the original certificate. Freccero were agents of Patek Philippe in Montevideo, Uruguay and are located at 25 De Mayo 563.
