"In one of his later Prefaces (c. 1674), Collins wrote: 'I hope also to have time hereafter to alter, amend and reprint other Treatises of my own especially my Treatise on Navigation intitled The Mariner's Plain Scale new Plained: the rather in regard of his present Majesty to his immortal praise, hath been pleased to settle a maintenache for forth Hospital Boys, and for a learned Lecturer to teach them Navigation'" (Taylor Mathematical Practitioners 247).
