[DOBBS, Arthur]. Articles of Agreement, for carrying on an Expedition by Hudson's Streights, for the Discovery of a North-West Passage to the Western and Southern Ocean of America. London, 1745.

8o (178 x 108 mm). 16 pages. (Closely trimmed with some shoulder notes cropped.) Gray wrappers.

FIRST EDITION of the articles which formalized the government's sponsorship of a search for a Northwest Passage, made at the insistence of Arthur Dobbs. The articles state a reward of £20,000 for the discovery of a passage. Dobbs's supporters managed to raise £10,000 to send an expedition to Hudson's Bay in 1745 under the command of William Moor, with the hope that it would be more successful than the controversial failure of the voyage led by Captain Middleton. Moor's attempt, however, was also unsuccessful. Sabin records only the Dublin edition of the pamphlet, dated 1746. Alden & Landis 745/6; Sabin 2141. VERY RARE.
