Compare with the portrait of Maria Louise van Hessen-Kassel in the collection of the Rijksdienst Beeldende Kunst, The Hague, inv.no. C 1016 (see Old Master Paintings. An illustrated Summary Catalogue, 1992, p. 68, no. 440, with ill.)

The artist was active in Weert and Venlo, Limburg, as a painter of altarpieces and portraits (see Pronkstukken Venlo 650 Jaar Stad, exhibition catalogue 1993, pp. 122/24)
