Contemporary sprinkled sheep gilt, smooth spine in 7 compartments, green and red morocco lettering pieces in two (light wear to spine ends, chipping to labels). Provenance: ALEXANDER DALRYMPLE (1737-1808), hydrographer, see lots 134-137 (inscription on front free endpaper).

FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY ALEXANDER DALRYMPLE on front free endpaper: "A Present from the Author. Received 10th Febry 1789. A Dalrymple." Dalrymple was the first critical editor of discoveries in Australasia and Polynesia. Tratado de Navegacion is an important work on navigation, geography, and astronomy by the most important Spanish astronomer of the 18th century.
