SAUTHIER, Claude Joseph. A Map of the Province of New-York, reduc'd from the large Drawing of that Province, Complied from Actual Surveys by the Order of His Excellency William Tryon Esqr. Captain General & Governor of the same, by Claude Joseph Sauthier, to which is added New-Jersey, from the Topographical Observations of C.J. Sauthier & B. Ratzer. Engraved map by William Faden, partly colored by a contemporary hand, 714 x 514 mm (linen backed, light browning and minor chipping to edges and folds). Provenance: Thomas W. Streeter (bookplate; his sale part II, Parke Bernet, 20 April 1967, lot 878).
Thomas W. Streeter notes that "This copy of the map was evidently separate, sectioned to fold into a case. The prime meridian here is New York, the first map to use this meridian, according to the article, 'American Prime Meridians' by J.H. Pratt in Geographical Review for April 1942. North of Massachusetts the eastern boundary of New York is the Conneticut River north of Massachusetts. Lebanon, Dartmouth College, Hanover, Lime, etc., are all shown."
