A RENAISSANCE REVIVAL ENAMEL, MULTI-GEM AND GOLD PENDANT AND CHAIN
The pendant, designed as a sixteen-pointed vari-cut diamond star, the sides with green, blue, white and translucent red enameling of geometric design, set with two central, removable medallions, one with Christ's insignia IHS, and the other, with interlaced letters spelling Maria, against a translucent red or white enamel ground, a small latch releasing to reveal thirteen white enamel and gold circular compartments, the reverse with yellow, green, blue, red and white enameling of arabesque designs and depictions of the 'Tools of Passion', to the enameled foliate pendant hoop, suspended from a gold chain, spaced by rectangular blue and white enameled links set with either diamonds or rubies, enhanced by blue and black enamel tapered bars (one diamond deficient in chain), 35¼ ins., circa 1870
