This unpublished painting throws light on the early development of the painter, as hitherto the earliest known dated work was of 1655 - the Sportsmen in a Landscape, in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Nancy (photograph in the R.K.D.). This picture and the present lot are in a similar scale and show the influence of Kerstiaen de Keuninck
