Around the body, in cursive script is written al-'izz wa al-iqbal wa al-dawla wa al-sa'ada wa al-sala[ma] wa al-kirama wa al-'afiya wa al-baqa li-sahibihi (Glory and prosperity and wealth and happiness and well-being and generosity and health and long-life to its owner). The lower kufic band reads al-baraka wa al-dawla wa a,al-shakira wa al-shukra wa a,l-kirama wa al-'afiya wa al-birr (Blessing and wealth and gratitude and gratefulness and generosity and health and piety). That around the rim reads wa al-baraka wa al-sur[ur] wa al-daw[la],wa al-surur wa al-'afiya wa a, (And blessing and joy and wealth and joy and health).
The quality of the decoration of this bucket is extremely high, similar to that of another similar bucket sold in these Rooms 19 October 1995, lot 252. Here there is even more complexity to the decoration, notably the copper-inlaid lattice of strapwork which encloses the central band of zodiac roundels.
