A LARGE SAFAVID GREY AND WHITE SOFT PASTE PORCELAIN DISH
PROBABLY KIRMAN, SOUTH EAST IRAN, FIRST HALF 17TH CENTURY
With slightly rounded sides and sloping rim on short foot, the white interior densely painted in grey with trees and floral motifs against a rocky ground around four different birds including a heron, the rim with large medallions of alternating shades, surrounded by simple flowerheads, the underside of the foot bearing a red wax nasta'liq owner's seal and a Safavid makers mark resembling a Chinese character, with fine cracklure, area of surface stain and hair cracks
18½in. (47cm.) diam.
