The lacquer panels that back these miniatures relate, in their central design which features a vase of flowers flanked by two birds within a cusped area, to a pair of book covers in the Khalili collection (see Nasser D.Khalili, B.W.Robinson and Tim Stanley, Lacquer of the Islamic Lands, Part One, London, 1996, no. 206, accession no. LAQ486, p. 253) which are attributed to Kashmir, 18th or 19th century.
