OTTOMAN SYRIA, DATED 1699
Ceramic tile with cobalt-blue, manganese, turquoise and black decoration on white ground, St. George, with halo and flowing robe kills the dragon to the left of the composition whilst a woman with outstretched arms stands to the right, surrounded by a border of diamonds, signed and dated along the bottom edge amal al faqir Musa Ibn Estafan fi madinat Halab sanat 1699, "the work of the humble Musa, son of Stephen, in the town of Aleppo, 1699"
