ELLIOTT ERWITT (b. 1928)
VARIOUS PROPERTIES '...the subject matter of Erwitt's pictures is small beer indeed. His simple snapshots are no more heroic than the hapless and untidy lives of individual men. They deal with the empty spaces between happenings - with the anti-climactic non-event... From these unmemorable occasions, Erwitt has distilled with wit and clarity and grace, the indecisive moment.' (John Szarkowski)
