This elegant games box, inlaid with pewter on a dark rosewood ground, is conceived in the South German 'Boulle' revival style of the mid-19th Century. It relates to the oeuvre of Franz Xaver Fortner, the celebrated Munich cabinet-maker. See Christie's, South Kensington, 11 June 2003, lot 662.
