A FRENCH CARVED IVORY FIGURAL CHESS SET
LATE 19TH CENTURY
Depicting the Hundred Years War between the French and English, the green stained side representing the English, the kings and queens crowned, the king holding an orb and shield, the bishops with hunch-backs, the knights as horses' heads, the rooks as turrets, the pawns as archers and soldiers armed with spears
The king -- 5¼in. (13.3cm.) high; the pawn -- 3 3/8in. (8.6cm.) high
