Jean Effel was a pseudonym, born François Lejeune in Paris, he was a professional artist and illustrator, cartoonist and satirist. He published a number of political pamphlets and posters. Among his most important works are collection of anti-fascist caricatures (1935), the children's fairytale Turelune le Cornepipeux (1944) and the series La Criation du Monde ('The Creation of the World'), which started in 1945. In 1953, he created 'When Animals Still Talked'. He received the International Lenin Peace Prize in 1968
