Persian manuscript on paper, 106ff. with 14ll. of black nasta'liq, arranged in two gold outlined columns, prose introduction and beginning of main section with illuminated headings and text within gold clouds, final folio with colophon signed by the scribe Muhammad 'Ali Tatawi during the 51st regnal year of the Emperor 'Alamgir, tan morocco binding- 9¾ x 6in. (24.5 x 15 cm.)

Lot Essay

This is a selection from the masnavi with explanations dedicated to the Mughal Emperor 'Alamgir. There is a long eulogy of the Emperor in the preface. A smaller copy of this text by the same scribe is in the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library in Patna (Persian poetry catalogue 1, No.79).
