The rim decorated with groups of huntsmen chasing a deer, a rabbit, a stag a hare and a fox, the well with a raised boss, touch of the maker 'W.B.' with a horse or stag in a beaded circle (O.P.5485)

Lot Essay

Purchased from Phillips London 18th December 1984 for £.32,000 excluding premium, a record auction price for a piece of English pewter.
It is the fifth largest charger recorded. See Ian Robinson, Journal of the Pewter Society, Spring 1977 and Autumn 1983 for articles on chargers.
The costume department of the Victoria and Albert Museum have confirmed the style of costume to the mid 17th Century.
