The figure of Noah was used for Schnorr's illustrated Bible, published in 1860. The figure of Mary, datable to 1820/21 was intended for a unexecuted composition of The Women at the tomb of Jesus. We are grateful to Professor Dr. Helmut Börsch-Supan for his help in confirming the attribution.
