Of sarcophagus shape and inlaid overall with scroll decoration, with three cut-glass and foliate-cast-lidded ink-wells, two dished pen-trays, and foliate-shaped handles, above a mahogany-lined and rosewood-veneered frieze drawer, on foliate-cast paw feet

The sarcophagus ink-stand, with its palm-flowered and laurel-wreathed pots, is designed in the Louis Quatorze manner promoted in the early 19th century by the London-based ébéniste and 'buhl' manufacturer Louis Le Gaigneur.
