Each with a circular ring supported by scrolled supports resting on turned balusters, with an apple-shaped soap dish with urn finial, above a canted traingular section enclosing two drawers, on turned supports, above a circular ring-turned bowl-stand, on cabriole legs with pointed pad feet, now with later brass plant-stand

Lot Essay

Twelve related 'Mahogy large sized pillard bason stands' were supplied to William, 5th Earl of Dumfries (d. 1768) for Dumfries House, Ayrshire, by the Edinburgh cabinet-maker Alexander Peter and invoiced on 28 May 1759 at a cost of 15s each and a total cost of £9 (F. Bamford, Dictionary of Edinburgh Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1983, p. 98, plate 6).
