This pair of encoignures is stamped by the celebrated ébéniste Pierre Roussel I (1723-1782) who worked in the Faubourg St Antoine and counted among his clientèle the Prince de Condé. The illusionistic cube parquetry is characteristic of his oeuvre. A table en chiffonnière with a similar cube parquetry was sold anonymously, Christie's, New York, 21 October 1997, lot 75.
