IN THE MANNER OF GILLOWS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The rectangular plate in moulded frame between twin uprights with paterae on a shaped rectangular plinth with solid gallery to the reverse with a reeded frieze on bun feet, previously but not originally with screw fixings possibly for candle branches
21 in. (53.5 cm.) high; 18 in. (46 cm.) wide; 9½ in. (24 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Gillows supplied a similar 'Mahogany Looking Glass frame for plate' to the 5th Duke of Rutland (1778-1857 in February 1821 for £4.7.10. The sketch is illustrated in their Estimate Sketch Book for that yearm no. 3086 (now in Westminster City Library).
A related mirror, attributed to Gillows, was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 14 September 2004, lot 31.
