LATE 18TH CENTURY, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS, STAR AND 4 TO CUP AND STAND, PAINTER'S MARK 28. IN BLACK TO STAND, GILDER'S MARK TO CUP
Each piece painted en grisaille with a circular or oval panel, the cup with an allegorical figure of Hope, as a classical female by the sea, a ship in the distance, the stand with the sleeping Rinaldo gazed upon by Armida, and the cover with an extinguished torch and quiver of arrows, each enclosed by a tooled gilt frame surmounted with entwined ribbons and flowers (3)
