"This is a big, bad, burly Burgundy with explosive, very ripe and rapidly maturing fruit followed by huge, indeed massive and very structured flavors buffered by the excellent concentration. There is clearly fine material and impressive complexity but this wine has yet to find its balance and it's not entirely clear that the fruit will be around when the structure is finally resolved. My score gives the '90 Clos de Bèze the benefit of the doubt and it will be interesting to see how the wine continues to evolve." BH, November 20, 1999
