Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with half open-face case, cream-coloured enamel dial, dauphine hour markers in 1900 and its subsequent sale on 12 December 1900. It furthermore states that the soldered bracelet was provided by the customer and added by Patek Philippe upon special request of its first owner, hence rendering it a unique piece.

The designation "half open-face" was used for watches with wider bezels than usual and which were often finely decorated.

Consigned by a descendant of the original owner, the present watch has never been offered at auction before.

For examples of other wristwatches with finely decorated cases and bracelets see Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, pp. 40, 41 and 97.
