Cal. 17'''170 HU nickel-finished lever movement, 18 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance, swan neck regulator, the silvered matte dial with applied dot and Roman numerals, stylised gilt compasses hands, outer ring with black enamel names of 42 world locations, all centred by a revolving black and silvered ring calibrated for the Arabic diurnal and nocturnal 24 hours, in circular plain case with coin-edged bezel, snap on back, case, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Certificat d'Origine et de Garantie and Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1946 and its subsequent sale on 11 May 1948. Furthermore delivered with fitted brown leather presentation box stamped Patek, Philippe especially made for Robert Wolff, period instruction manual for World Time watches in French and an English translation.

The present watch is one of only 15 examples of reference 605 HU fitted with a silvered dial to have been offered at auction to date. Examples accompanied by their original certificate are exceedingly rare.

Reference 605 was cased in both yellow and pink gold. Both versions were available with either a plain metal dial or a unique cloisonné enamel dial. The latter could depict individual continents, hemispheres or even the entire planet.
