SIGNED ROLEX, OYSTER PERPETUAL PRECISION, REF. 6098, CASE NO. 727060, MANUFACTURED IN 1952

Reference 6098 was available both in stainless steel and gold and is often referred to as the large bubble back without date. Being the largest, hence most practical and readable of all models in production around 1950, it is well understandable that Rolex chose this reference for further development of a robust watch. It is therefore by no surprise that Rolex lent a group of some 30 watches of reference 6098 to several Everest expeditions, all equipped with high-contrast luminous black dials.

The present watch however is a rather sensational discovery as it is not only fitted with the highly attractive white honeycomb dial but also with the star-shaped numerals, commonly found on the celebrated reference 6062.
