Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with enamel dial, blue hour markers, gold numerals and gold Louis XV hands in 1878 and its subsequent sale on 23 April 1879.

The Extract furthermore confirms that both the back cover set with a garnet as well as the bezel with engraving Elles blessent toutes la dernière tue ("they all hurt, the last one kills", Latin "vulnerant omnes, ultima nectat", a motto often found on early solar clocks) were provided by the customer. Consequently, this highly unusual watch was most certainly made by special order for a client of A.H. Rodanet, Patek Philippe's retailer in Paris, and can be considered unique as no comparable example is known to exist to date.
