Lot Essay

The above lot relates to two walnut candlestands at Beningborough Hall, Yorkshire, illustrated in Adam Bowett's English Furniture 1660-1714, Woodbridge, 2002. The present candlestand exhibits the turnings seen in the earlier example in pl. 4:37 (1670-90) and the arched base appears in the later example illustrated in pl. 4:39 (1690-1710).
