Lot Essay

This needlework panel may have originally been a card-table top. It represents a game of cards and has the initials 'K.P.' and 'M.N.' and date 1756, either marriage initials or the people engrossed in the game. A related needlework panel mounted on a modern table is illustrated in Mallett's The Needle's Excellency, London, 1997, p. 13.
