Lot Essay

The table's distinctive gadrooned frieze with central capped shell, and legs headed by a molded scroll with flowerhead terminal feature on an example with outset rounded corners sold from the collection of the late Marjorie Wiggin Prescott, Christie's, New York, 31 January 1981, lot 338 and now in a private American collection. Another comparable table from the Fred Skull collection is illustrated in R. Edwards, ed., The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture, London, 1964, p. 520, fig. 10.
