Lot Essay

This girandole mirror, with entwined sea-serpents, bears the trade label of S. Lindsay, carver and gilder of 45 Lower Stafford Street, Dublin. The label is engraved with a classical scene of Hibernia holding the Irish harp, her arm resting on books to represent learning with a painting to her right representing the arts. Stafford Street was home to many furniture-makers and upholsterers from the mid-18th century through to the early 19th century.
