Throughout his life Mollino maintained two consistent pastimes, those of photography and eroticism. Eroticism, and in particular the female form, were insistent subjects that permeated many aspects of Mollino's work as an architect, designer and as a photographer. Subsequent to his encounter with Polaroid instant cameras in 1963, Mollino abandoned all other types of photographic equipment, preferring the instantaneous uniqueness of the Polaroid print.
The models were photographed in Mollino's apartment on Via Napione, Turin, and were often dressed in allegorical or symbolic outfits that Mollino himself took great care to design. These Polaroids, mounted on annotated card and dedicated between 1968 and 1972 to Commandante Vignoli, include inspirations as diverse as the Wild West, Istanbul, Vanity, and the poetry of the Andalusian poet Garcia Lorca.
